Working With “Parts” in Guided Meditation
Sometimes we need a little guidance to change our unwanted parts. This is where things like guided meditation and self-hypnosis can be wonderful tools. Guided meditation or visualization gives us a template to just relax and follow, taking some of the hard work off our shoulders. But we still have to do the visualizing! There are hundreds of products out there one can buy or download onto cell phones and tablets. Or you can record your own voice and play it back while meditating if you want to write your own guided journey.
Karey Keith is the force behind Majestic Insights (www.majesticinsights.com). She is an intuitive and psychic who works specifically with “parts” of the psyche to help empower, alter, or change them. Working with our “parts,” which can be our archetypal patterns and identities, we can learn to clear out old habits, behavioral patterns, and even illnesses associated with that part. We can change our parts to make them function better. This applies both intensive hypnotherapy and guided meditation, but we can do this on our own in the comfort of our home to quickly change the energy pattern of our soul and change the archetype in question.
Karey does these sessions as part of her intuitive healing practice. She is also a coach and healer and can bring about fast changes that empower you to own your parts, manage them better, and stop those parts from being at cross-purposes. She gives the example of the “rebel” archetype, or part, which can get you into a lot of trouble with anti-social, rebellious behaviors such as smoking, drinking too much, fighting with others, and even violence. But by going within during a session, you can transform that rebel part of you into someone who instead challenges authority and expresses different opinions and attitudes in a more productive way.
Karey says, “You cannot cast out a part of yourself, but you can renegotiate them or reset them.” Take your “judge,” for instance; instead of always harshly judging yourself, you can make the judge the part of you that uses discernment and intuition when meeting someone new or getting into a new situation. Though working with an expert will lead to possibly deeper realizations and success, it is possible to do guided meditations and visualizations at home.
The following is a home exercise that you can either memorize or tape with your own voice and follow along. It can be done as many times as needed to change a part, but be careful to take a little time between sessions to recover and process what you’ve learned.
Meeting and Changing Your Parts: A Guided Meditation by Karey Keith
Find a quiet place and get into a relaxed state, eyes closed, breathing deeply into the lungs. Take your mind deeper into relaxation. Breathe.
Visualize a staircase. There are 10 steps. As you go up or down the steps, whichever you choose, you go deeper into yourself, more relaxed. Count down from 10 to 1.
Upon reaching 1, you are now in a sacred place, safe and protected.
